We founded Great Lakes Pigeon Rescue to address a need we knew existed: abandoned pigeons with no hope for survival in the wild. Your involvement makes the hundreds of hours we spend rescuing, transporting, cleaning, and administering medical care worth it, because you make us know we’re not alone in our love for these wonderful birds.

I want to tell you a story about two of those birds.  Senshi and Toothless are an incredible pigeon couple who truly embody the power of love. Toothless was found barely alive, with all her tail and flight feathers missing, a brave survivor of pigeon racing and a hawk attack. As she recovered from her wounds under the loving care of our volunteers, we discovered that neurological trauma had also left Toothless blind. Visually impaired pigeons never cease to amaze us! Toothless quickly learned how to find her food and water dishes by listening for the sounds of rattling seeds and voice cues from her foster humans.

And then Toothless met Senshi! Senshi is also a brave survivor of pigeon racing and a hawk attack who courageously spent months patiently recovering from a severely infected shoulder wound. While Senshi is no longer able to fly, he says he can still be Toothless’ eyes! These two patient, loving birds support each other every day in their journey to recovery, and now that they are fully healed and enjoying their newfound health and happiness, they are looking for a forever home where they can share their love and courage with their very own humans!

Stories like this cannot happen without the help of volunteers, donors, and those who open their home to a pigeon companion. Will you help us save birds like Senshi and Toothless by making a gift of $20 which buys a 50lb bag of seed, $40, the cost to equip a new foster volunteer with a pigeon enclosure, or $200, the cost of life-saving surgeries?
